SS-Sonderkommando Dirlewanger was set up in 1940 to carry out anti-partisan operations in the eastern occupied territories. First used in the Generalgouvernement area, the unit was notorious for its campaigns of plunder, murder and extortion. In the Belarus theatre the unit participated in numerous anti-partisan actions, acquiring a reputation for brutality and terror. 60 bw photos, colour pages, 14 maps.
